FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State fell to non-conference opponent Western Connecticut, 2-0, on Monday afternoon. The women's soccer team now sits at 5-8-1 overall. The Wolves improved to 9-4-1 on the season.
After each team registered one shot on goal in the first 3:26, the best scoring chance of the first half came in the 25th minute. The Wolves drew a corner kick and followed with a shot by senior forward Myah Croze that hit the crossbar. FSC gathered the rebound and cleared the ball out.
Both teams combined for just one more shot to close the half as the score remained 0-0 at the break.
Western Connecticut came out quick in the second half as Adrianna Alfano scored back-to-back goals just 27 seconds apart. Alfano stole the ball and scored from 15 yards out before collecting a free kick, dribbling around a defender and netting her second goal.
The Rams attempted to cut their deficit in half as freshman midfielder Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) drove up the field and took a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. Junior forward Jazzmin Terrell (West Babylon, N.Y.) collected the rebound and had her shot saved by Wolves senior keeper Kristen Roessler.
In the 55th minute, WestConn nearly took a three-goal advantage as Croze received a pass near the goal line and had her shot hit the left post.
The Rams had just one more shot on goal down the stretch as they fell, 2-0.
Roessler made five saves in the shutout for Western Connecticut.
Farmingdale State next returns to Skyline Conference action when they travel to Purchase College on Wednesday, October 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
