Farmingdale State Wins Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship

Farmingdale, N.Y. - For the fourth straight season and 12th time in the last 13 years, the Farmingdale State women's soccer team has won the Skyline Conference Championship. The second-seeded Rams defeated #4 Manhattanville, 5-0, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. to claim the title and the conference's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

FSC (14-5-3) senior midfielder Edasia Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.), who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship, scored the opening goal in the 18th minute to put the Rams out in front, 1-0. Farmingdale State took the 1-0 advantage into the break after controlling the first half by outshooting Manhattanville (11-10) 16-2 and allowing no shots on goal.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, FSC increased the lead to 2-0 on a Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) goal off the through pass by junior midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.). Less than four minutes later with 30:14 on the clock, Starzee netted the cross in front by E. Martinez to put the Rams on top, 3-0.

In the 77th minute, E. Martinez sent home the rebound off Briella LaFata's (East Meadow, N.Y.) shot to extend the advantage to 4-0. With 11:09 left to play, Martinez registered an unassisted goal for the hat trick as Farmingdale State earned the 5-0 Skyline Conference Championship victory.

The Rams did not allow a second half shot and finished the game with a 30-2 shot advantage over the Valiants.

E. Martinez recorded seven points on three goals and one assist in the win. She also added one goal in the semifinals versus Sarah Lawrence en route to being named the Most Outstanding Player.

For Manhattanville, sophomore goalie Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y.) had 14 saves.

Farmingdale State now awaits word of their First Round opponent for the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship which will be announced on Monday, November 11th at 1:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
