#2 Farmingdale State - 6, #3 Sarah Lawrence - 1
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The second-seeded Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated #3 Sarah Lawrence, 6-1, in the Semifinals of the Skyline Conference Championship this afternoon. The Rams (13-5-3) have advanced to the Skyline Final for the fourth straight season and will host #4 Manhattanville on Saturday.
The Rams controlled play early as they attempted six shots over the first 18 minutes, five of which were on target and saved by Gryphons' (14-5) freshman goalie Emily Cornejo (Portland, Or.).
Farmingdale State opened the scoring in the 21st minute as junior midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.) scored off the double assist from sophomore forward Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Cailyn Demarinis (Deer Park, N.Y.).
FSC extended their lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute after senior midfielder Edasia Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) tallied a goal off a passing play from both J. Martinez and freshman midfielder Courtney Nelson (Ridge, N.Y.).
Just over four minutes later, freshman defender Taylor Berry (Glen Head, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate goal off the corner kick from senior defender Gianna DeCarlo (West Islip, N.Y.) to put the Rams in front, 3-0.
The Rams out shot Sarah Lawrence, 17-3, and took six corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.
Only 12:07 after the halftime break, Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) sent a ball into the middle of the field from the wing for junior midfielder Meagan Murdocco (North Babylon, N.Y.) who scored from 15 yards out to give the Rams a four-goal edge.
After Gryphons' sophomore forward Tiffany McBrayer (Miami, Fla.) produced a goal to cut their deficit to 4-1, FSC sophomore forward Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) answered with an unassisted goal to regain the four-goal advantage.
Farmingdale State added a late goal from freshman midfielder Kristina Sommer (Oakdale, N.Y.) as they went on for the 6-1 win.
FSC senior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) stopped two shots in the victory, while Cornejo finished with 16 saves for Sarah Lawrence.
The Rams had 13 different players record at least one point in the victory.
Farmingdale State will now host fourth-seeded Manhattanville in the Skyline Conference Final on Saturday, November 9th. A game time will be announced tomorrow.
