Martinez Tallies Nine Points in Win Over Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Edasia Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) recorded nine points on three goals and three assists to lead the Farmingdale State women's soccer team past conference opponent Maritime, 8-0, on Monday evening. With the win, the Rams improved to 11-5-3 overall and 8-0-1 in the conference, while the Privateers dropped to 5-11, 1-8.

FSC opened the scoring in the 21st minute as sophomore forward Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) scored off the assists from Martinez and junior midfielder Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State extended their lead to 2-0 on their next shot on goal as Martinez tallied a goal from junior midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.).

The Rams recorded four more shots on goal prior to the half but were unable to find the back of the net as the game remained, 2-0.

Martinez scored her second goal of the game just 6:42 into the second half as sophomore defender Gianna Romano (Walden, N.Y.) had the assist to put FSC in front, 3-0.

Only 45 seconds later, Zeblisky scored from freshman midfielder Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to go up, 4-0.

After Schenk scored off the feed from both Starzee and Martinez to take a five-goal advantage, Zeblisky tallied her third goal of the game at 59:59 to put the Rams ahead, 6-0.

In the 64th minute, freshman midfielder Gianna Demers (Selden, N.Y.) assisted on Farmingdale State's seventh goal as she sent a corner kick into the box for freshman defender Kaila Hinchman (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to score.

Martinez completed her hat trick with an unassisted score in the 83rd minute as FSC went on for the 8-0 victory. Martinez's nine points in one game now ranks tied for third all-time.

Zeblisky finished with six points on her three goals, while Schenk had a goal and an assist for three points. 

The FSC women's soccer team next travels to play conference opponent Manhattanville on Wednesday, October 30th at 4:00 p.m.
