Rams Blank St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in Conference Matchup

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 3-0, in a Skyline Conference matchup this afternoon. FSC improved to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bears dropped to 6-4, 1-1.

In the eighth minute, FSC opened the scoring on a goal by freshman midfielder Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) assisted by both sophomore forward Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Alexandra Johnson (Commack, N.Y.).

Over the next 35 minutes, St. Joe's-Brooklyn sophomore goalkeeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stopped eight consecutive shots on goal to keep the game at 1-0.

With 42 seconds remaining in the half, FSC junior midfielder Meagan Murdocco (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored on a free kick to put FSC ahead 2-0.

The Rams outshot St. Joe's-Brooklyn 22-0 in the first half.

In the first 15:07 of the second half, FSC recorded four shots on goal but each was stopped by Shaban. With 25:13 left to play, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.) tallied a goal off the assists from Schenk and sophomore midfielder Chloe Galvez (Selden, N.Y.) to take a 3-0 lead.

Neither team would score the rest of the way as the Rams won, 3-0.

Schenk recorded a goal and an assist for a game-high three points, while Shaban finished with 15 saves for the Bears in the loss.

The Farmingdale State women's soccer team next plays host to Skyline foe St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday, October 5th at noon.
