Farmingdale, N.Y. - With just over eight minutes left, Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to lead the FSC women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut this evening. With the win, the Rams improved to 3-1-2, while the Colonials dropped to 2-4-1.

The Rams held a slight 4-3 shot advantage in a scoreless first half and took the only three corner kicks. FSC's best scoring chance came in the 28th minute as senior defender Gianna DeCarlo's (West Islip, N.Y.) shot hit the post. After gathering the rebound, DeCarlo's second shot was saved by Western Connecticut sophomore goalkeeper Karly Martin (Bristol, Conn.).

Over the first 25 minutes of the second half, Farmingdale State recorded four shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Martin.

In the 82nd minute, Schenk dribbled up the right side of the field and took a shot from 20 yards out that was just over the head of Martin to put FSC ahead 1-0.

The Colonials attempted just one shot over the remainder of the game as the Rams earned the 1-0 non-conference victory.

FSC senior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) made four saves as she picked up her fifth shutout in six games this season. Martin stopped six shots in defeat for Western Connecticut.

Farmingdale State next travels to non-conference opponent Geneseo on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m.
