Late Goal Leads Knights Past Rams

Mount Saint Mary - 2, Farmingdale State - 0


Newburgh, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team dropped to 1-1 in the Skyline and 3-5-1 overall after a 2-0 loss at Mount Saint Mary (6-3-1, 3-0) on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half and the Rams holding a 9-1 shot advantage, Mount Saint Mary freshman forward Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) broke the tie in the 77th minute with a shot inside the right post to give the Knights a 1-0 edge. A deflection on a corner kick with 24 seconds remaining gave Mount Saint Mary their second goal of the day.

Farmingdale State finished the game with a 17-5 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 edge in the second half. Shots on goal were also in favor of the Rams at 12-6, while corner kicks were even at two each.

Sophomore keeper Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted her fifth shutout of the season for the Knights, while senior Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) finished the game with four saves for the Rams.

Farmingdale State will now host St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday, October 3rd at 2:00 p.m.
