Farmingdale Holds Off Husson at Skidmore Invitational

– On the final day of the Skidmore Invitational, Farmingdale State held off a late charge by Husson to pick up a 2-1 victory, Sunday afternoon at Wachenheim Field in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.. The Rams improve to 5-1, while the Eagles fell to 1-4.

Junior forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) got the scoring started, putting Farmingdale on the board just before the end of the first half, as she beat the keeper from the top of the box for her second goal of the season.

Senior defender Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.) made it a 2-0 game in the 69th minute when she headed home a corner kick from junior forward/midfielder Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) for her first tally of the season.

Husson fought back and was able to get on the board in the 83rd minute when Katie DeShane deflected one past junior goalkeeper Stacey Rao (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) for her second goal in as many days, but the Rams were able to hold off the Eagles during the final 7:03 and hold on for the 2-1 win.

Senior goalkeeper Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) earned the win, making one save in the first half, while Rao allowed the one goal in the second half.  Jessica Poulin suffered the loss for Husson, making 10 saves on 12 shots.

Farmingdale outshot Husson 24-3 and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
