Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team shutout non-conference opponent Rivier College, 2-0, behind two scores from junior forward Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.) this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 1-0 on the season.
Farmingdale State broke the scoreless tie 15 minutes into play when senior defender Shannon Kalogeras (Patchogue, N.Y.) intercepted a pass at midfield and setup Martorano in front for the goal. Martorano increased the Rams' lead to 2-0 as she scored from 20 yards out in the 49th minute.
Farmingdale State did not allow a shot in the first half and held a 22-2 shot advantage for the game. The Raiders did not record a shot on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Surber (Langdon, NH) made 13 saves in the loss for Rivier.
The Rams next will host Bard on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in the first of three games slated for Saturday in the Farmingdale State Tournament.
