Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer
team improved to 6-5 overall with a 2-1 victory over New Jersey
City University (5-6) on Wednesday afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Senior defender Angela Barea (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) headed
in a crossed ball from sophomore forwards Kristine Ostrem (West
Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Tricia Pickford (Massapequa Park,
N.Y./Massapequa) to put the Rams up 1-0 just 2:33 into the
game.
New Jersey City tied the game nine minutes later when graduate
midfielder Katie Feehan (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) sent a free kick to
freshman defender Ashley Welch (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville
Memorial), who netted her second goal of the season at 11:54.
The Rams took back the lead at 42:05 as sophomore forward Christina Cascio (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) knocked in a cross from sophomore midfielder Monica Grisales (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood), which would hold on for the eventual game-winning goal.
Farmingdale sophomore goaltender Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) made eight saves in the win, while freshman keeper Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) made six saves in defeat.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, October 5th when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
