Rams Fall to NYU

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team was defeated by New York University, 5-1, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. A late first-half goal by freshman forward Laura Palumbo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) would prove to be the game-winner for the Violets.

NYU started the scoring early with goal by freshman midfielder Britta Gauthier (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake-South) off a corner by sophomore midfielder Lucy Dolly Caires (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) at the 10:31 mark.

The Rams tied it later in the half with a goal by freshman forward Alyssa Fleming (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) at 33:51. NYU quickly countered as sophomore defender Nicole Stutz (Bohemia, N.Y./Syosset) fed Palumbo with a pass through the middle of the box, putting the Violet up, 2-1, less than 30 seconds later.

NYU freshman forward Filiz Kipcakli (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), freshman midfielder Rebecca Assing (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), and Palumbo each added an insurance goals in the second half.

Farmingdale State's sophomore goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) had 10 saves. Violet's senior goalkeeper Katie Barnes (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin School) stopped two shots for the win.

The Rams will head to Husson College in Bangor, Maine this weekend. They will play UMass Boston on Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m, followed by Western New England on Sunday, September 9th at 11:00am.
