ECAC Metro Finals
Manhattanville, 2
Farmingdale State, 0
PURCHASE, N.Y. – Top-seeded Manhattanville (14-5-3) captured the ECAC Metro Region Women's Soccer Championship for the first time in school history today by defeating #2-seed Farmingdale State, 2-0. Freshman Kathryn Moore (Pearl River, N.Y.) was named the Tournaments Most Valuable Player after scoring a goal and assisting on two others in the Valiants' two ECAC games this weekend.
Moore assisted on Manhattanville's first goal, 22:22 into the first half, as she launched a free kick inside the box that found senior Sarah Kinsley (Pearl River, NY) for a header pass over to Bailey Flood (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.), who buried the shot into the far corner for the 1-0 lead .
Just a minute later, Kinsley dribbled down the left side and sent a cross to the top of the box where freshman Elizabeth Olsen (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) fired home her third goal of the season and made it 2-0 Valiants.
The two goals in the first proved to be enough for Manhattanville, who out-shot the Rams 16-7 and held the advantage on corner kicks 3-0. Senior Michele Ribeiro (West Hartford, Conn.) made three saves in the contest, recording her twelfth shutout of the season, while Farmingdale freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, NY) finished with seven saves in defeat.
Head Coach Chris Roche and the Rams will look forward to the 2007 season after posting the best overall record (10-8-2), most goals scored (46) and fewest goals allowed (28), since joining the NCAA six years ago.
