Women's Soccer End of Season Report

The Women’s Soccer team finished the 2003 season with an overall record of 5-9-1, including 2-3-1 in the Skyline Conference. Under first year Head Coach Ernesto Phan, the Rams established a solid foundation for the future, and will lose only one player from this years team, Senior Kristy Kacharaba. Farmingdale finished third in the WIAC standings and fifth in the Skyline Conference.
Offensively, the team was led by Freshman Amanda Chiusano, who tallied a team-high 24 points (10 goals, 4 assists) and Freshman Marea Hennessy, who scored 10 goals and added 1 assist. The two rookies scored a combined 4 hat tricks and 45 points for the Rams and will be looked upon to once again lead the attack next year. Sophomore Natalie Budinich was a threat in the midfield with 6 goals and 2 assists. The defense was anchored by goalkeeper AnnMarie Fenza, who finished with a 1.49 Goals Against Average and 4 shutouts in eleven games played. Sophomore Janine Posillico and Junior Devan Weber were strong in the backfield for the Rams.
For their accomplishments, three individuals were named to the All-Skyline Team and four to the WIAC All-Star Team. Marea Hennessy was selected First Team All-Skyline, while Amanda Chiusano and AnnMarie Fenza received Second Team All-Skyline honors. Farmingdale’s WIAC All-Stars were Hennessy, Chiusano, Fenza and Freshman Kristina Famularo.

Four Farmingdale Athletes Named WIAC Soccer All-Stars

Four members of Farmingdale’s Women’s Soccer Team have been chosen as All-Stars in the Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Freshmen Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY) and Amanda Chiusano (Bellport, NY) were selected as they both scored a team-high 4 goals in WIAC play. Freshman Kristina Famularo (East Meadow, NY) received the honors tallying 2 goals and a team-high 4 assists in the WIAC, while Sophomore Goalie AnnMarie Fenza (East Northport, NY) was chosen after recording 21 saves and 2 shutouts in 3 games played and a 1.00 Goals Against Average in the conference.

Rutgers-Camden Shutout Ends Rams Regular Season

Rutgers-Camden scored five first-half goals to cruise past Farmingdale 5-0. The Raptors are on an eight game unbeaten streak, with a record of 12-3-3. The Rams fell to a record of 5-9-1 at the end of regular season play.
The Raptors winning goal was scored 36 seconds into the game by Jacci Giannone (Williamstown, NJ) assisted by Katie O’Connor (Sewell, NJ) and Rachel Greenwald (West Deptford, NJ). Rachel Greenwald scored at 10:03, assisted by Heather Greenwald (West Deptford, NJ), who also assisted the third goal at 19:01 by Christina Donato (Cherry Hill, NJ). Jocelyn Page (West Deptford, NJ) scored the fourth goal for the Raptors at 23:25, assisted by Giannone. Heather Greenwald netted a pass from Melissa Ulrick (Pitman, NJ) at 40:33 of the first half, which would be the final Raptors goal of the game.
The Rams were out shot by the Raptors 39-2 and were unable to get any scoring started. Junior Lisa Richter (Point Lookout, NY) and Sophomore Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY) split the duties between the posts, with Richter making 5 saves in the first half and Baione making 8 saves in the second half.

DeJosia Nets Two Against Farmingdale

St. Joseph’s Senior Forward Francine DeJosia (Patchogue, NY) scored both goals in today’s win over Farmingdale State. St. Joseph’s scored at the 17-minute mark in the first half and added the final goal with 2 minutes left in the game. Farmingdale managed only 6 shots on goal in cold and windy conditions. Lisa Richter (Point Lookout, NY) was the emergency starter in goal for the Rams as starter Anne Marie Fenza (Northport, NY) and backup Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY) were both injured. Richter came up big with 9 saves on the day. Lisa Paiva (Deer Park, NY) picked up the 6th shutout for St. Joseph’s.

Lady Rams Fall to SUNY Utica-Rome

SUNY Utica-Rome 3

The Rams were a bit unlucky in the game today against SUNY Utica, losing 3-0 and their starting goalkeeper. Utica picked up their fourth win of the season, while the Rams fall to 5-7-1. The Rams’ starting goalie Anne Marie Fenza (Northport, NY) was injured in the first 30 seconds of the game, forcing the Rams to find another keeper. Sophomore forward Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY) took over in net, making four saves against seven shots on goal by SUNY Utica. Kourtney McKnight (Middlesex, NY) tallied a goal and an assist for the Wildcats, with other goals coming from Brandy Napier (Moravia, NY) and Kim Wyborski (Utica, NY). Farmingdale was unable to find the back of the net on 10 shots on goal, and 12 corner kicks. Robin Dole (Rome, NY) picked up the win with 5 saves in net.

Rams Unbeaten Streak Ends at 4

Farmingdale (5-6-1, 2-2-1 Skyline) was unable to continue their 4 game unbeaten streak today, with a 2-0 loss to Skyline opponent Stevens Tech (8-6, 3-0 Skyline).

The Rams were unable to stop Stevens, who remains perfect in the Skyline, after the Ducks scored two first half goals. Junior Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA) notched the first goal at the 6:32 mark to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead, before Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, NJ) added the final goal for the Ducks with seven minutes left in the half. Assists for the Ducks came from Kiley Rode (Montgomery, NY) and Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, MD).

Farmingdales’ Anne Marie Fenza (Northport, NY) had an astonishing 13 saves off 33 shots, while Stevens’ Rommy Guevara (Kearny, NJ) and Erica Midttveit (Jackson, NJ) faced only 2 shots, one coming on a breakaway in the second half, to take the shutout victory.

The Rams will travel to SUNY Utica-Rome this Saturday, for a 1pm game.

Famularo named Skyline Rookie of the Week

Kristina Famularo of East Meadow, NY, has been named Skyline Rookie of the Week in Women’s Soccer for the week of October 13, 2003. Kristina, who is currently majoring in Criminal Justice, plays on the Forward line for the Rams. Kristina was a factor in four of the Rams' six goals against New Jersey City University in a 6-0 win. She had two goals and two assists on the day, helping the Rams improve to a 5-5-1 season record, and currently standing at Second Place in the Skyline.

Women Take WIAC Soccer Game

The freshman on the Women’s Soccer team had a big impact in their WIAC win today, scoring 5 of the 6 goals for Farmingdale.

Sophomore Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY) tallied an unassisted goal just 22 minutes into the first half to start the Rams scoring streak. The first of the freshman contributors was Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY), off an assist by freshman Kristina Famularo (East Meadow, NY) with three minutes left in the half. Famularo chipped in 2 goals of her own for the Rams, with both assists coming from Amanda Chiusano (Bellport, NY). Freshman Stefanie Roy (Miller Place, NY) scored on a penalty kick for the Rams at the 55-minute mark. Chiusano topped the scoring off with under 10 minutes to play, and Famularo picked up her second assist of the day.

Marea Hennessy named Co-ECAC and Skyline Player of the Week!!!

Freshman Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY) has received two honors for this week. She has been named Co-ECAC Player of the Week for Division III, as well as Skyline Conference Player of the Week for women's soccer.

Marea tallied 2 hat tricks this week, with a total of 7 goals in 3 games. She scored 3 goals in a win over Mt. St. Vincent, the lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Manhattanville, and another "hat trick" to help defeat St. Elizabeth's. Farmingdale has moved to first place in the Skyline standings this week, holding a 2-1-1 record for 7 points.

Two of the Rams recorded hat tricks today as the women defeated St. Elizabeth’s 7-0.

The Rams overpowered St. Elizabeth’s with 25 shots on goal. Farmingdale’s Amanda Chiusano (Bellport, NY) and Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY) both had three goals for the day. Stephanie Roy (Miller Place, NY) added a goal with 14 minutes to go in the game. Kristina Famularo (East Meadow, NY) had 2 assists today, and Janine Posillico (Mineola, NY) had one. The women’s next home game is against New Jersey City University, next Saturday at noon.

Conference Game Ends in Tie

Today’s Skyline Conference game between Manhattanville College and Farmingdale State ended in a tie. Despite two 10-minute overtimes, neither team was able to take the conference win.

Farmingdale picked up the first goal at the 35:00 mark in the first half, with an unassisted goal by Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY). Manhattanville’s Stephanie Rein (Lynbrook, NY) tied it up with 16 minutes left in the game, off an assist from Heidi Boulanger (Ottawa, ON). With a few good chances in overtime for both teams, the game stood at 1-1. AnnMarie Fenza (Northport, NY) picked up 10 saves for Farmingdale, while Michelle Ribeiro (West Hartford, CT) picked up 7 saves for Manhattanville.

Rams Bounce Back with Big Win

Farmingdale (3-5, 2-1 Skyline) bounces back from their first conference loss with a win over Mt. St. Vincent's (0-4-1, 0-2 Skyline). Scoring 4 goals each half, the Rams came out with the victory in today's Skyline Conference game.

Marea Hennessy (Warwick, NY) led the Rams offense with a hat trick, while Natalie Bundinich (East Northport, NY) and Amanda Chiusano (Bellport, NY) each scored 2 goals. Freshman Stefanie Roy (Miller Place, NY) scored on a penalty kick late in the second half. Amanda Chiusano and Devon Weber (Huntington Station, NY) contributed one assist each. Anne Marie Fenza (Northport, NY) made 9 saves for the shutout. Mt. St. Vincent's Jackie Rizzotto made 28 saves on the day.

Farmingdale State lost today in a Skyline Conference game against Centenary College. With the score at halftime 2-0, Farmingdale State (2-5) only allowed one goal in the second half, but came up short with a final score of 3-0. Jess Sikora (Ogdensburg, NJ) netted 2 goals for Centenary, with Michelle Yerkes (Mt.Holly) adding one for the Cyclones. Farmingdale's AnnMarie Fenza (Northport, NY) played well in goal with 15 saves on the day.

After playing a strong game against Nationally ranked Elmira College in the opening round of the Manhattanville Tournament (Elmira scored all three of their goals in the last 10 minutes of play), the Rams easily defeated Bard College 8-3 in the consolation game. Freshman Amanda Chiusano led Farmingdale (2-3, 1-0 Skyline) with 3 goals and 1 assist. Natalie Bundinich and Marea Hennessy each scored 2 goals and added 1 assist for the Rams.

Rutgers-Newarks' Nnenna Allen scored with 6 minutes left in the second overtime handing the Rams a non-conference loss. Amanda Chiusano scored off a feed from N atalie Budinich just 20 seconds into the second half and Budinich scored on a penalty kick with three minutes left to force overtime for Farmingdale (1-2). Goalie AnnMarie Fenza had 16 saves in defeat, including several spectacular stops.

Lady Rams Win Home Opener

The Rams defeat Mt. St. Mary College 1-0 to open the 2003 season Farmingdale State, under the direction of 1st year coach Ernesto Phan, defeated Skyline Conference opponent Mt. St. Mary College 1-0 to open the 2003 season. Sophomore forward Patricia Barna scored the games lone goal converting a goal mouth scramble with 12 minutes left in the first half. Freshman goalie Ann Marie Fenza made 8 saves for the shutout. Farmingdale outshot Mt. St. Mary's 17-8.
