FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | A one-goal, four-assist afternoon by junior attacker Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.) was not enough for the Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team, whose five-goal rally against visiting Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Vincent fell just short on Wednesday as the Dolphins picked up a 12-10 victory.

The host Rams (6-9, 4-3 Skyline) received a hat trick by senior attacker Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), while classmate Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied a pair. Senior Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded two points on a goal and one assist, while senior defender Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) joined Vogiatzis and Zumbrunn for the team lead with two caused turnovers against CMSV (3-9, 2-5). Junior goalie Dominique Baldino (Island Park, N.Y.) turned aside 11 shots in the FSC cage, including three apiece in the first-three periods of action.

Mount Saint Vincent raced out to a 5-1 after the first 15-minute session, before Codispoti's 8-meter tally 2:13 into the second period stopped a four-goal run by the visitors. After the Dolphins put away the next two goals in the game, sophomore Molly Espey (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) and Zumbrunn (off a Hughes assist) scored with 4:51 and 0:27 to go, respectively to bring Farmingdale State to within a 7-4 deficit at the halftime break.

FSC opened the second half with Codispoti feeding Vogiatzis for her 33rd goal of the season less than three minutes in, before the Dolphins registered a four-goal spurt over a 6:10 span to go ahead 11-5 with 4:57 to go in the third stanza. Zumbrunn netted her 18th of the year with 3:07 to go in the third, before Rams ripped off another four-straight goals in the fourth period to cut the Mount Saint Vincent edge to 11-10 with 5:25 to go in the contest, after Vogiatzis and freshman Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) bagged consecutive free-position shots 65 seconds apart from one another. The visitors responded with an 8-meter marker 45 seconds after Coppola's tally to give her side a two-goal advantage that they would not relinquish.

Head coach Erin Calkins's Farmingdale State squad, which has already qualified for next week's six-team 2023 Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, finishes regular-season play on the road Saturday, when it travels to Purchase, N.Y., for a noon opening draw at Manhattanville College. The winner of that match will lock up the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference tourney.
