Women's Lacrosse Earns Shutout Over Purchase on Senior Day

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference play with a 18-0 win over Purchase College on Saturday.

It was Senior Day at FSC and a special pre-game ceremony was held for seniors Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.), Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.), Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Adrianna Schiavone (Seaford, N.Y.), Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.).

The Rams outscored the Panthers 4-0 in the first quarter. Zumbrunn scored the opening goal off the feed from junior attack Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.). Codispoti then set up both Vogiatzis and junior attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to go up, 3-0.

Farmingdale State's fourth goal was scored by Vogiatzis off the pass from Hughes.

In the second quarter, Zumbrunn registered her second goal of the game, from Pontecorvo, before setting up sophomore midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) for a score to give FSC a commanding 6-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State scored one more goal prior the half as Vogiatzis completed her hat trick, woman-down, from Codispoti.

FSC registered six unanswered goals in the third quarter to go in front, 13-0. Codispoti opened the quarter with a man-up score before Vogiatzis scored once more.

After another Codispoti goal, sophomore attack Alyssa Guerra (Bay Shore, N.Y.) got on the board with a goal off the pass from freshman midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.).

Espey tallied a pair of goals in the final 3:51 as they took a 13-goal advantage into the final 15 minutes.

The Rams added two goals by Coppola and one apiece from Schiavone, Pontecorvo and freshman midfielder Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) in the fourth as they went on for the 18-0 victory.

Hughes finished with seven assists on the day and moved into a tie for fifth on the single-game record list. Pontecorvo and Codispoti recorded two goals and three assists for five points each, while Vogiatzis finished with a game-high four goals, to go along with a career-best four caused turnovers. Zumbrunn tallied two goals and two assists and Espey produced three goals and one assist. 

Coppola recorded two goals, an assist, three ground balls and one caused turnover, while Neu had a goal and an assist.

Schiavone scored the first goal of her career and picked up three ground balls and Guerra added a goal and one ground ball. Zeblisky tallied two caused turnovers on defense for FSC.

Junior Dominique Baldino (Island Park, N.Y.) (W, 1-0) was in net for the Rams and made a pair of saves with one ground ball to earn the win.

Farmingdale State will next take on conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent in a home game on Wednesday, April 26th at 4:00 p.m.
