Women's Lacrosse Blanks Purchase, Clinches Skyline First-Round Bye

PURCHASE, N.Y. | Four different student-athletes from the Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team collected multi-goal games Wednesday afternoon, while sophomore goalie Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) made seven saves, as the visiting Rams recorded a 16-0 shutout at Purchase College in Skyline Conference action.

FSC (7-7, 5-1 Skyline), which has now locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's six-team Skyline Conference Championship and will play host to a semifinal contest on May 5, last posted a clean sheet on April 5, 2017, versus Mount Saint Vincent.

The Rams held a 3-0 lead after one period of action, with sophomore attacker Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) burying two of her career-best five goals during the 15-minute session. She has now collected 10 points (8g, 2a) over the Rams' last pair of outings.

Seven more goals found the back of the net for Farmingdale State in the second frame, with junior attack Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scoring twice during the stretch. She set career-highs in goals (four), assists (game-high-tying three) and points (game-high-tying seven, along with Pontecorvo).

The Rams netted six more times in the second half, with sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) completing her sixth hat trick of the campaign with a pair of goals. Two of senior Chayanne Melendez's (Brentwood, N.Y.) career-high and game-high-tying three assists also came during the stretch.

Junior midfielder Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) followed up her five-goal outing last time out versus Maritime with a two-goal, two-assist effort against the Panthers (1-9, 0-6). Brown and Pontecorvo (game-high eight ground balls) tied for the game-high with four caused turnovers apiece in transition, while senior defender Anna Zaborowska (E. Patchogue, N.Y.) led all players with six of the Rams' 14 draw controls on the afternoon.

Head coach Erin Calkins and the Rams will round out Skyline regular-season action Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Riverdale, N.Y., for a noon opening draw at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
