FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Junior attacker Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) netted a career-high five goals Wednesday afternoon, including the golden goal with 44.7 seconds remaining in overtime to send the Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over previously unbeaten Maritime College.

Brown converted a feed on the winning marker from senior defender Anna Zaborowska (E. Patchogue, N.Y.), who – along with defender Stacy Papantoniou (Whitestone, N.Y.) and attacker Chayanne Melendez (Brentwood, N.Y.) – were honored prior to the contest as part of Senior Day festivities.

The host Rams (6-7, 4-1 Skyline) won a contest that saw five ties and four lead changes, defeating a Privateers (10-1, 4-1) side that was one of six remaining unbeaten teams in NCAA Division III women's lacrosse.

All five goals scored in the first period were of the eight-meter free position variety, with Brown netting twice in the first six minutes in lifting FSC to a 4-1 advantage. Tallies by sophomore Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and junior Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) sandwiched a goal at the 4:01 mark by Maritime sophomore Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, N.Y.).

The visiting Privateers used a 12-1 shots advantage in the second period to net five unanswered goals by five different players, taking a 6-4 edge into the halftime break.

Farmingdale State sophomore Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored two of her three second-half goals in the first nine minutes of the third stanza to push her side in front 7-6, before Maritime's Kiera Ford (Montgomery, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, N.Y.) scored two-plus minutes apart to give the visitors an 8-7 lead with 2:32 left in the period. The game went into the fourth period knotted at 8-all, as Diamond found junior attacker Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) for the tying goal 1:10 before the buzzer.

Pontecorvo and Brown pushed FSC in front by a pair with 7:23 remaining in regulation, before the two sides traded a pair of goals – the latter by Diamond with 1:27 on the clock – to send the hosts in front by a 12-10 margin. However, Sara Wright (E. Islip, N.Y.) converted a Lesiewicz feed with under 26 seconds remaining, before the latter won the ensuing draw, got fouled in the eight-meter area and bagged the subsequent free-position shot with 4.7 seconds showing to send the game to extra time.

Both sides took one shot apiece in the first three-minute portion of the overtime period, before switching sides. Lesiewicz won the draw to start the second portion of the frame, with her shot at the 1:56 mark ringing off the post. Papantoniou picked up the loose ball, before the Rams successfully cleared into the offensive zone. Zaborowska then saw Brown open, who buried her final shot of the afternoon to give her side the triumph.

Maritime held advantages on the afternoon in shots (36-21) and draw controls (19-10), while Farmingdale State earned a 24-16 margin in the loose ball battle.

Diamond led all players with six points (3 g, 3 a), while Zaborowska (team-high 6 dc) tied for the team lead in both ground balls (5, with Adrianna Schiavone) and caused turnovers (2, with Celina Schenk). Sophomore netminder Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) backstopped her side to victory with a 13-save effort for Farmingdale State.

Lesiewicz led the Privateers with four goals, four ground balls and game-highs of 10 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Avery Jilson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Wright registered two goals apiece, with the former adding two assists to tie for the team lead in the category with Gabrielle Nicolosi (W. Islip, N.Y.). Freshman keeper Tori Koenig came on with five minutes remaining in the third period, and turned aside four Rams shots in her 25:14 stint.

Head coach Erin Calkins's FSC squad is now off from Skyline Conference competition for 14 days, as it will play host to an Alumni Game at 10 a.m. on April 23 (Sat.), before resuming regular-season action on April 27 (Wed.) in a 4 p.m. opening draw at Purchase College.
