Vogiatzis Scores Five Goals in Win Over Manhattanville

Farmingdale, N.Y. - FSC junior attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored five goals, including four in the fourth quarter, to lead the women's lacrosse team to a 15-10 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline.

The Rams trailed 5-2 after the first quarter and used a pair of free-position goals from senior defender Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and one from sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) to knot the score at 5-5.

Only 12 seconds into the third quarter, Valiants' (1-6, 0-1 Skyline) senior midfielder Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y.) tallied a man-up score to take a 6-5 advantage.

FSC trailed 8-7 at the inception of the fourth quarter before senior attack Chayanne Melendez (Brentwood, N.Y.) tallied a man-down goal to tie the game.

With 13:17 remaining, Vogiatzis recorded the game-winning goal off the feed from junior attack Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) to put the Rams ahead, 9-8. 

Just 2:26 later, Diamond set up Vogiatzis for another goal to give Farmingdale State a two-goal lead, 10-8.

Over the next four minutes, the Rams used goals from Brown, Diamond and freshman attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to take a 13-8 advantage.

Each team scored two goals in the final five minutes as FSC went on for the 15-10 victory.

Vogiatzis registered a game-high five goals, to go along with one caused turnover, while Diamond finished with three goals, four assists, four draw control, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Brown tallied two goals, two assists and four ground balls and Melendez had a season-best three points on two goals and an assist.

Zaborowska recorded a pair of goals, two draw control, seven ground balls and a career-high seven caused turnovers. Her seven CT's is tied for second all-time in program history at Farmingdale State for a single game.

Rams' defenders Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Adrianna Schiavone (Seaford, N.Y.) added three and two caused turnovers, respectively, in the win.

FSC freshman goalkeeper Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots, while Manhattanville junior goalie Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y.) had 14 saves.

Farmingdale State will next travel to play St. Joseph's-Long Island in a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00 p.m.
