Diamond's Seven Points Leads Rams to Skyline Win at MSMC

Newburgh, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tallied a season-high seven points, on three goals and four assists, to lead the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team to a 14-5 victory at Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday evening. The Rams won their Skyline Conference opener and now sit at 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Knights fell to 6-2, 0-1.

FSC trailed 2-1 after the first quarter but used back-to-back unassisted scores by freshman attack Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) to take a 3-2 advantage.

MSMC answered with a goal with 8:06 left to play in the second quarter to knot the game at 3-3.

The game remained 3-3 until 4:40 on the clock when the Rams rattled off three consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead. Diamond tallied a goal before two straight by freshman defender Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.).

The Knights recorded a goal with seven seconds remaining in the half as Farmingdale State led 6-4 at the break.

Just 55 seconds into the third quarter, Diamond netted a goal as FSC regained a three-goal advantage.

Four minutes later Diamond set up freshman attack Chayanne Melendez (Brentwood, N.Y.) for a goal to increase the Rams lead to 8-4.

Farmingdale State was ahead by five, 9-4, and scored a pair of goals, by freshman attack Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), in the final 30 seconds of the third quarter to take a commanding 11-4 lead into the fourth.

The Rams opened the fourth with goals from Diamond and Brown in the first two minutes to go in front, 13-4.

Each team scored just one goal in the final 10 minutes as Farmingdale State went on for the 14-5 victory.

Diamond finished with seven draw control and a ground ball, to go along with her game-high seven points. Brown notched three goals, two assists, five ground balls and four draw control, while Vogiatzis (3g) and Zumbrunn (2g, 1a) had three points apiece. Zaborowska tallied two goals, six ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw control in the win.

In goal, freshman Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) turned away seven shots for FSC to pick up her third victory of the season.

Farmingdale State next will play host to conference opponent Manhattanville on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
