Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Game at Montclair State

Montclair State - 14, Farmingdale State - 4


Montclair, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to Montclair State for a non-conference game on Wednesday evening and fell, 14-4. FSC dropped to 2-5 on the season, while the Red Hawks improved to 3-4.

Montclair opened the scoring just 36 seconds in after winning the opening draw control and using a goal from senior attack Rhiannon Brown (Ramsey, N.J.).

With 11:54 on the clock, the Red Hawks recorded three unanswered goals in only a two-minute span to take a 4-0 advantage.

Montclair led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter and tallied a pair of unassisted goals to go take a commanding eight-goal edge.

Freshman attack Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State on the board with 7:49 left to play in the second quarter to cut the deficit to seven.

Only 46 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) set up freshman attack Chayanne Melendez (Brentwood, N.Y.) for a goal to close within six, 8-2.

Montclair State responded with back-to-back goals to go back on top by eight, 10-2.

Zumbrunn netted a goal with six seconds remaining in the half as FSC entered the break trailing, 10-3.

The Rams were held to just one goal in the final 30 minutes as the Red Hawks went on for the 14-4 victory.

Zumbrunn had two goals, while Melendez and freshman attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tallied one goal apiece. Freshman midfielder Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded six caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Her six CT's ranks fourth all-time for a single game in program history and the seven GB's is tied for 10th all-time. 

FSC next will travel to play Kean in a non-conference game on Saturday, March 26th at 1:00 p.m.
