FSC Women's Lacrosse Spring Break Update - Rams Defeat Mt. Holyoke

Clearwater, Fla. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team played two games on their spring break trip to Clearwater, Florida. The Rams fell to Western Connecticut State, 11-2, on Monday, before defeating Mount Holyoke, 12-8, on Wednesday.

Monday, March 14th

In their first game on Monday, WestConn scored the opening goal only 1:09 in, but FSC sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) quickly answered with a score only 32 seconds later.

Still tied with just under six minutes to play in the first, Western Connecticut senior attack Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn.) recorded back-to-back scores to go up, 3-1.

WestConn led 4-1 at the end of the first and 6-1 after two quarters.

Vogiatzis netted the Rams only other goal with 5:33 to play in the third quarter as WestConn went on for the 11-2 victory.

Freshmen Kristin Stabiner (Maspeth, N.Y.) and Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) split time in net for the Rams and made five saves apiece.

Wednesday, March 16th

On Wednesday, FSC jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter en route to the 12-8 victory against Mount Holyoke.

Vogiatzis registered the first two scores of the game before the Lyons netted their first goal.

Over the final 10 minutes of the first, the Rams scored five unanswered goals. Freshman attack Alyssa Guerra (Bay Shore, N.Y.) set up freshman midfielder Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) for a goal to make it 3-1, before freshman attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored off the feed from sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.). Vogiatzis recorded the final three goals of the quarter to put the Rams on top, 7-1.

Mount Holyoke outscored Farmingdale State 3-2 in the second quarter and 4-1 in the third to close within just two at 10-8.

With seven minutes remaining, a yellow card put FSC a man-down. After a turnover by the Lyons, Diamond set up Zaborowska for a goal to increase the advantage to 11-8.

Diamond won the next draw control and scored on a free-position shot to give FSC a 12-8 lead.

Reilly stopped four shots down the stretch as Farmingdale State went on for the 12-8 win.

Vogiatzis scored a career-high six goals on just eight shots, while Diamond registered seven points with three goals and four assists. Zaborowska controlled the midfield with two goals, three assists, six draw control, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

Reilly totaled 15 saves in goal for the Rams.

The women's lacrosse team return home from their spring trip and will next travel to Montclair State for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 23rd at 4:00 p.m.
