FSC Falls to Oneonta in Non-Conference Matchup

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team hosted SUNY Oneonta for a non-conference game this afternoon and fell, 17-7. 

The Red Dragons (1-2) opened the game with five unanswered goals, including two from senior midfielder Rachel Morris (East Greenbush, N.Y.), to take a 5-0 advantage just 10 minutes in.

Oneonta increased their lead on a Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, N.Y.) goal before a man-down score put the Red Dragons on top, 7-0.

The Rams (1-3) trailed 8-0 at the start of the second quarter and used a man-up score from sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) with 10:51 on the clock to cut their deficit to seven.

Oneonta senior attack Tessa Hughes (Delmar, N.Y.) responded just 14 seconds later as she registered an unassisted goal to go in front, 9-1.

With 7:39 remaining in the second quarter, Farmingdale State freshman attack Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) set up sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) for a goal.

After a Red Dragons goal, Brown scored unassisted to close within seven, 10-3.

The Red Dragons closed the half with goals by Mancini and Morris as they took a 12-3 advantage into the break.

FSC was down, 15-5, with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter before freshman attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored her first career goal on a free-position shot.

The Rams were outscored 2-1 in the fourth quarter as Oneonta went on for the 17-7 win.

Diamond tallied two goals and one assist for three points, while Vogiatzis notched a pair of goals. Brown recorded a goal and two assists, to go along with two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) added a goal and a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the loss.

The Rams next will head on their Spring Break trip to Florida. FSC will play two games in Clearwater: Monday, March 14th vs. Western Connecticut State at 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 16th vs. Mount Holyoke at 12:30 p.m.
