Rams Edge Ramapo for Non-Conference Victory

Farmingdale State - 10, Ramapo - 9


Mahwah, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team played a non-conference game at Ramapo this afternoon and earned a 10-9 win.

After the Roadrunners (0-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, FSC (1-2) followed with three consecutive goals by freshman defender Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and freshman attack Alyssa Guerra (Bay Shore, N.Y.).

Trailing 3-1 with 14:22 left to play in the second quarter, Ramapo cut the deficit in half on an unassisted goal from freshman attack Esme Espinosa (Oradell, N.J.). The Roadrunners evened the score at 3-3 as sophomore attack Colleen Mason (Manahawkin, N.J.) recorded the final goal of the first half.

Freshman midfielder Kelly Griffin (Waldwick, N.J.) put Ramapo ahead 4-3 on an unassisted goal with 8:21 remaining in the third. After back-to-back scores put the Roadrunners up by three, FSC answered with goals by freshman midfielder Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and Zumbrunn close within one with 1:40 left in the quarter.

The Rams entered the fourth quarter down 7-5 and tallied four unanswered goals to take a 9-7 lead with 7:29 remaining. Griffin ended the FSC run with her second score of the afternoon to cut the Ramapo deficit to 9-8. After an unassisted goal by Diamond put Farmingdale State up two, the Roadrunners would score once late as the Rams went on for the 10-9 victory.

Diamond had a team-high four points on three goals and one assist, while Zumbrunn added three goals. Zaborowska scored twice and caused three turnovers in the win for Farmingdale State. 

Ramapo had three players each score two goals in the loss.

Freshman goalkeeper Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) had 13 saves for the Rams, while junior Alyssa Curto (Staten Island, N.Y.) had eight saves for the Roadrunners.

The Rams next will travel to Montclair State for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 9th at 4:00 p.m.
