Rams Drop Non-Conference Game at New Paltz

New Paltz, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to New Paltz for a non-conference game on Wednesday and fell, 13-9. The Rams dropped to 0-2 on the year, while the Hawks improved to 1-1.

FSC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with goals by sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), freshman attack Jasmin Brown (Shirley, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.).

The Rams led 4-1 before New Paltz closed the first quarter with back-to-back goals by Maddy Carullo (River Vale, N.J.) and Kira Tucker (Halfmoon, N.Y.) to close within one.

After a Kaitlyn Shaw (Rye Brook, N.Y.) goal with 11:15 remaining in the first half evened the score at 4-4, Farmingdale State outscored the Hawks 2-1 the remainder of the quarter and took a 6-5 advantage into the break. Vogiatzis and Diamond each tallied a pair of first half goals for the Rams.

Trailing 7-6 with 10:44 left in the third, New Paltz recorded four consecutive goals, including three from senior midfielder Katie Zito (Glenmont, N.Y.), to go out in front by three. Vogiatzis notched her fourth goal of the game with 1:51 remaining in the quarter to pull the Rams within two, 10-8.

Leading 11-8 early in the fourth, Carullo netted the pass from Zito to put the Hawks up by four. Zumbrunn followed with an unassisted goal with 9:38 remaining to cut the FSC deficit to 12-9. The Rams were held scoreless the remainder of the game as they fell, 13-9.

Vogiatzis registered a team-high four goals, while Diamond had four points on two goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Anna Zaborowska (East Patchogue, N.Y.) caused a career-high six turnovers which ranks third all-time at Farmingdale State.

Shaw led the way with a game-high five goals to go along with one assist, while Zito added six points on four goals and two assists for New Paltz.

The Rams next will head to Ramapo for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 5th at noon.
