Women's Lacrosse Falls to Stevens in Season Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC women's lacrosse team opened their 2022 season with a home game against Stevens Institute of Technology and fell, 21-4. 

The Ducks (1-0) opened the scoring just 1:39 in on an unassisted goal by freshman attack Alison Lax (San Jose, Calif.).

The Rams (0-1) quickly responded with a goal by sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) to knot the score at 1-1.

Over the final 10:10 of the first quarter, Stevens recorded four unanswered goals, including two from senior midfielder Morgan Westerby (Marlton, N.J.), to take a 5-1 advantage.

Trailing 7-1 with 11:08 left in the second quarter, Vogiatzis notched her second goal of the game off the pass from sophomore midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.).

Following a yellow card on the Ducks, FSC freshman attack Alyssa Guerra (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored man-up to cut the deficit to four, 7-3.

Just under a minute later, Stevens senior attack Camryn Rogers (Branchburg, N.J.) scored back-to-back goals as the Ducks regained a six-goal advantage, 9-3.

After Guerra's second goal of the game, the Ducks scored three straight to take a 12-4 advantage into the halftime break.

Stevens opened the third quarter with a pair of man-up goals by Maddie Schmidt (Mattituck, N.Y.) and Zoe Cook (Princeton, N.J.) to extend their lead to 14-4.

Just a 1:29 later, another goal by Schmidt pushed the advantage to 11, 15-4.

Stevens took the 15-4 lead into the fourth quarter and outscored the Rams, 6-0, as they went on for the 21-4 non-conference victory.

Vogiatzis and Guerra led the Rams with two goals apiece.

The Ducks were led by Rogers, who scored a game-high six goals in the win. 

Freshman goalkeeper Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished with eight saves for FSC.

Farmingdale State will next travel to play non-conference opponent New Paltz on Wednesday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m.
