Women's Lacrosse Has Eight All-Conference Selections; Gendels Tabbed Offensive Player of the Year

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference's head women's lacrosse coaches have cast their votes on the 2021 edition of their all-conference team and Farmingdale State senior attack Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year.

Gendels, sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), senior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.), freshman defender Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Perrini (Holbrook, N.Y.) were each named to the First Team, while junior attack Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), sophomore attack Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and senior defender Melanie Tencic (Plainedge, N.Y.) claimed a spot on the Second Team. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Gendels helped lead the Rams to their fourth Skyline Conference crown this past weekend, including a six-point display (4 g, 2 a) in the championship final on Saturday against Merchant Marine. The Wantagh, N.Y. native will enter the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship with Skyline-best totals of 40 goals and 53 points. Gendels led the Rams in goals and points, ranked second in ground balls (15) and third for assists (13). She scored at least three goals in every game this season.

Vogiatzis ranked second on the team in both goals (30) and points (33). In the Skyline, she was third in goals scored, fifth for goals per game (3.75) and sixth in points per game (4.13).

Shelton led FSC in draw controls (34), was third in both goals (11) and caused turnovers (8) and fifth for points with 15. She ranked ninth in the Skyline Conference in draw controls per game with 4.25.

Zumbrunn anchored a Farmingdale State defense as she led the team in caused turnovers (9). The Rams allowed a conference-low 60 goals in their eight games this season.

Perrini played every game in goal and held a 7.50 goals against average and a .516 save percentage, while recording 64 saves and allowing only 60 goals. She led the conference in goals against average, goals allowed and save percentage.

Iannotta was second on the Rams in assists (16) and ground balls (15) and fourth in goals (10) and points (26). In the Skyline, she ranked second in assists and assists per game (2.00), eighth for points and 14th in points per game (3.25).

Tuohy notched a team-high 23 assists, ranked third for points with 30 and fifth in caused turnovers (7). Tuohy led the Skyline in assists and assists per game (3.29), was fifth in points per game (4.29) and sixth for points.

Tencic picked up nine ground balls and caused three turnovers on defense for Farmingdale State. She helped the Rams to a conference-best 85 caused turnovers in their eight games.

Head coach Erin Calkins was named Skyline Conference Coach of the Year. Calkins is in her ninth season at the helm of the Rams program and guided FSC to its fourth conference title over the weekend. The 2007 Eastern Connecticut State University alumna brings her side into the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship with an unblemished record of 8-0 on the campaign.
