Top-Seeded FSC Advances to Skyline Finals With Win Over Manhattanville

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team advanced to the Skyline Conference Finals after tonight's 19-12 home win over #4 Manhattanville. FSC will now host #3 Merchant Marine on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

It was senior day at Farmingdale State and there was a pregame ceremony to honor Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.), Melanie Tencic (Plainedge, N.Y.), Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.).

Leading 3-1 in the opening minutes, the Rams (7-0) used back-to-back goals from junior midfielder Danielle Hall (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) to go out in front by four.

After Manhattanville (2-5) cut the deficit to 6-5 with 20:11 left in the first half, FSC freshman midfielder Olivia Quitoni (Wantagh, N.Y.) notched a free-position goal. Vogiatzis and Iannotta followed with a pair of scores to give the Rams a 9-5 advantage.

Over the final 10:11 of the first half, the Valiants outscored Farmingdale State 4-2 as the Rams took an 11-9 lead into the break.

FSC opened the second half with five unanswered goals including two from both Tuohy and Gendels and one from Shine to go ahead 16-9 with 13:19 left to play. Juniors Caity Bianchi (Garden City, N.Y.) and Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y.) recorded scores to pull Manhattanville within five but Farmingdale State scored three of the games final four goals to cap off the 19-12 victory.

Tuohy finished with a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists, while Gendels scored four goals and had two assists. Vogiatzis added four goals and Iannotta tallied three goals and a pair of assists for Farmingdale State.

For the Valiants, five different players scored two goals apiece in the loss.

The winner of Saturday's Skyline Championship receives the conference's automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
