Iannotta, Gendels Combine for 17 Points in Win at Mount Saint Mary

Newburgh, N.Y. - Junior Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) (3g, 6a) and senior Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) (8g) combined for 17 points in Farmingdale State's 19-3 Skyline victory at Mount Saint Mary on Friday evening. The FSC women's lacrosse team improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season with the win.

The Rams started quickly as senior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) won the opening draw control and scored just 10 seconds in to put Farmingdale State ahead, 1-0.

Over the next 8:39, FSC recorded five straight goals and extended their lead to 6-0. Gendels recorded back-to-back scores before Iannotta netted one and assisted on two others.

The Knights (1-1) got on the board with 20:07 on the clock as Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal.

At 17:49, Iannotta set up Gendels for a pair of goals to go in front, 8-1. Just 58 seconds later, Iannotta scored from junior midfielder Danielle Hall (Levittown, N.Y.) to give the Rams a commanding 9-1 advantage.

Farmingdale State led 9-2 with 12 minutes left in the first half and outscored Mount Saint Mary, 4-1, to take a 13-3 advantage into the break. 

In the second half, the Rams did not allow a goal and used six different scorers as they went on for the 19-3 victory.

Iannotta set career-highs with three goals, six assists, nine points and five ground balls, while Gendels matched her career-high with eight goals, just one shy of the FSC record for goals in a single game. Shelton recorded three goals, one assist and six draw control, freshman midfielder Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) notched two goals and one assist, and Hall registered one goal, two assists, three draw control and four ground balls. Freshman defender Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied a game-high four caused turnovers in the win.

Farmingdale State next hosts Maritime on Friday, April 16th at 6:00 p.m.
