FSC Opens 2021 With Victory Over Purchase

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC women's lacrosse team earned a 20-2 victory over Purchase College in their season opener this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams will be playing solely Skyline Conference games this year due to COVID-19 protocols.

Tied 1-1 just 4:35 in, the Rams (1-0) scored seven straight goals, four by sophomore attack Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and three from sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), to extend the advantage to 8-1.

Leading 8-2 with less that 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State used a free-position score by freshman midfielder Olivia Quitoni (Wantagh, N.Y.) to go back in front by seven. FSC closed the half with five unanswered goals and went into the break leading, 14-2. Tuohy registered eight points in the first half on four goals and four assists.

Junior attack Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) opened the second half scoring for Farmingdale State as she netted a pass from senior attack Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) only 30 seconds in. Vogiatzis followed with back-to-back goals to put the Rams on top 17-2 with 25:33 left on the clock. FSC added three goals over the remainder of the game en route to the 20-2 win.

Tuohy, playing in her first game since 2018, recorded a game-high 10 points on four goals and six assists, while Vogiatzis registered five goals and one assist. Gendels pitched in with six points (3G, 3A), five ground balls and caused three turnovers and Iannotta added one goal, two assists and a game-high four caused turnovers.

Senior midfielder Gabby Castles (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored both goals for Purchase (0-1).

Farmingdale State next will travel to Merchant Marine on Monday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m.
