Women's Lacrosse Falls at Kean

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to Kean University for a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon and were defeated, 21-5.

Trailing 3-0 in the opening minutes of action, FSC (1-9) junior midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) converted a free-position attempt to pull the Rams within two. The Cougars (3-6) responded with three straight free-position goals, two by sophomore midfielder Katie Pileggi (Haddonfield, N.J.) and one from senior midfielder Taylor Nyberg (Poughquag, N.Y.), to go out in front, 6-1, with 19:19 remaining in the first half.

After an unassisted goal by Farmingdale State senior attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Kean followed with six consecutive scores, including three from sophomore attack Amanda Ehrhart (Patchogue, N.Y.), to increase the advantage to 12-2 with 10:19 left on the clock. Each team scored once over the remainder of the half as the Cougars went into the break leading, 13-3. Kean converted 5-of-8 free-position attempts and outshot the Rams 21-8 in the first half.

The Cougars started the second half with seven unanswered goals and extended the advantage to 20-3 with 11:23 remaining. FSC freshman attack Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Haley Perez (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored late goals for the Rams in the 21-5 loss.

Perez scored a team-high two goals and had four draw controls and junior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) had four draw controls for Farmingdale State.

For Kean, Pileggi notched five points on four goals and an assist, while senior attack Morgan Graham (Lake Grove, N.Y.) also had five points with a goal and four assists.

The Rams next will open Skyline Conference play when they travel to Merchant Marine on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
