#20 Scranton Improves to 8-1 with Win Over Farmingdale State

Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to #20 Scranton this afternoon for a non-conference game and fell, 16-4.

FSC (1-8) came out quickly as junior defender Melanie Tencic (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals on free position shots to go up 2-0 just five minutes in.

The Royals (8-1) responded in a big way as they scored the game's next nine goals to take a seven-goal advantage.

With 27:27 left in the second half, the Rams used an unassisted score from Shelton to cut their deficit to 9-3. Scranton junior midfielder Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y.) responded with a free-position goal just 13 seconds later to regain a seven-goal lead.

Over the final 22 minutes of the game, the Royals held Farmingdale State to just one goal as they went on for the 16-4 victory.

Shelton led the way for FSC with three goals and three ground balls.

For Scranton, sophomore attack Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) (3g, 3a) and junior midfielder Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y.) (5g, 1a) had six points apiece in the win.

The FSC women's lacrosse team next travels to non-conference opponent Kean on Saturday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m.
