Bovich Leads New Paltz Past FSC

New Paltz, N.Y. - Sophomore attack Tara Bovich (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists as New Paltz earned a 17-7 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Wednesday. The FSC women's lacrosse team now stands at 0-4 on the year, while the Hawks improved to 2-2.

Trailing 4-1 with 20:26 remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to two. Only 36 seconds later, Shelton converted a free-position attempt to pull the Rams within one, 4-3. Bovich quickly answered with back-to-back goals to bring the New Paltz lead to three, 6-3, with 17:19 left on the clock.

With less than 12 minutes left to play in the first and FSC down 7-4, Shelton notched her fourth goal of the half on a free-position shot. The Hawks outscored the Rams 2-1 over the final 10:10 and took a 9-6 advantage into the break.

The Hawks opened the second half with four unanswered goals, including a pair from Bovich, to extend the lead to 13-6. After a Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) free-position goal for the Rams with 17:43 remaining, New Paltz scored the games final four goals en route to the 17-7 win.

Shelton finished the day with four goals and two draw controls, while Iannotta, Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.) and Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each added one goal.

For New Paltz, sophomore attack Amy Hofer (Newfield, N.Y.) scored three goals, while four other players scored twice. Sophomore midfielder Keydy Espinoza (Brentwood, N.Y.) recorded a game-high six draw controls in the victory for the Hawks.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Albright for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m.
