Rams Fall to Third-Seeded Golden Eagles in Skyline Semifinals

#3 St. Joseph's-L.I. - 12, #2 Farmingdale State - 9


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The third-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island Golden Eagles earned a 12-9 victory at #2 Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Semifinals this afternoon. The Rams were eliminated from the playoffs, while SJC-LI advanced to the finals on Saturday and will square off against the winner of #4 Mount Saint Mary / #1 Merchant Marine.

Trailing 3-1 midway through the first, FSC (7-9) cut the deficit in half after Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scored off the pass by junior attack Nicola Ingrassia (Deer Park, N.Y.). The Golden Eagles (8-8) responded with three straight goals from Alexis Hillman (Medford, N.Y.), Lauryn Gregson (East Islip, N.Y.) and Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) to go out in front, 6-2, with 7:05 left to play in the half. Each team would add one more goal in the half as St. Joseph's-LI went into the break leading, 7-3.

Farmingdale State junior midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) opened the second half with back-to-back scores over the first 1:50 to quickly pull the Rams within two.

Leading 8-6, SJC-LI used a pair of man-up free-position goals from Carroll and a Nicole Stoppelli (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) score on a free-position attempt to extend the advantage to five, 11-6, with 19:45 remaining.

St. Joseph's-LI, who led 12-7 with 3:48 on the clock, allowed two late FSC goals as they held on and earned the 12-9 Skyline Semifinal victory.

Sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored a team-high three goals, while Ingrassia and Tuohy each had three points on a goal and two assists for the Rams.

For the Golden Eagles, Carroll tallied a game-high five goals and seven draw controls, while Tillman scored three times.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica Meyers (Smithtown, N.Y.) stopped 12 shots for Farmingdale State and junior Lindsay Ramos had eight saves for SJC-LI.
