Rams Close Regular Season with Victory over Old Westbury on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 21-12 Skyline Conference victory over Old Westbury this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.

FSC's Sue Aparicio (Brentwood, N.Y.), Mary Kate Butler (Wantagh, N.Y.), Jessica Meyers (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) were each honored prior to the game for senior day.

The Rams (7-8, 6-1) opened the game with three straight goals from freshman midfielder Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) only 6:25 into the contest.

After Old Westbury (4-11, 3-4) sophomore attack Rachel Phillips (Riverhead, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal, Walker netted the pass from Tuohy to regain a three-goal advantage, 4-1, with 16:42 on the clock. Leading 5-3, Farmingdale State recorded back-to-back scores by Gendels and junior attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to go ahead by four.

With 4:14 remaining in the first half and OW down 8-4, the Panthers used goals from senior midfielder Taylor Guarneri (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Natasha Treuman (Merrick, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to only two. Each team tallied a goal over the final 2:08 as Farmingdale State took a 9-7 advantage into the break.

Only 1:48 into the second half, the Panthers evened the score at 9-9 after unassisted goals from both Treuman and freshman attack Danyel Smith (Roosevelt, N.Y.). Farmingdale State responded with seven unanswered goals, including three by Tuohy, to go out in front, 16-9, with 12:35 left to play.

Leading 17-11 with 7:34 remaining, Gendels scored back-to-back goals as the Rams extended the advantage to eight, 19-11. FSC outscored OW 2-1 the rest of the way to cap off the 21-12 senior day victory.

Gendels finished the afternoon with a career-high eight goals and had four draw controls, while Tuohy notched a game-high 11 points on six goals and five assists. Morra registered a team-high six draw controls and Meyers had 14 saves in goal for the Rams.

The Panthers were led by Treuman's seven points on five goals and two assists and senior attack Danielle Weir (North Massapequa, N.Y.) who had three goals, one assist and five draw controls.

FSC has claimed the #2 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship and will host #3 St. Joseph's-Long Island (5-2) in the semifinals on Wednesday, May 2nd (the game time is TBA).
