Tuohy Breaks School Record in Win over Maritime

Farmingdale, N.Y. – Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) broke the single-game record for points today with a 15-point performance in a 21-13 women's lacrosse victory over Maritime College. The Rams improved to 5-8, 4-1 in Skyline play, while the Privateers fell to 3-8, 1-6.

Tied 2-2 midway through the first, Farmingdale State pulled away with three straight goals including two from junior midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) and a score by sophomore attack Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.). Maritime scored the next 3-of-4 goals, cutting the deficit to 6-5 with 2:39 remaining in the half. Tuohy and Gendels combined for the final three goals over a 1:24 span, giving the Rams the 9-5 advantage at the break.

FSC led 12-8 early in the second half before a six-goal run pushed the lead to 18-8 with 15 minutes left to play. The Rams would add three more the rest of the way as they cruised to the 21-13 win.

For Farmingdale State, Tuohy tallied 13 assists (the second most in school history) with 10 of them coming in the second half. Gendels finished the day with career-highs of seven goals and 11 points. Tuohy and Gendels paced the Rams offense, either scoring or assisting on 20 of the teams 21 goals. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Meyers (Smithtown, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 16 saves in the win.

Maritime was led by Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y.) who registered a game-high 11 draw controls, along with team-highs of six goals, five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Junior attack Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y.) totaled five goals, including her 50th goal of the season.

The Rams will now travel to face Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, April 24th at 4:00 p.m.
