Tuohy Tallies Nine Points in Rams Win Over SJC-LI

Patchogue, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) tallied a career-high nine points, on four goals and five assists, to lead the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team to a 12-10 Skyline Conference victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island on Wednesday evening. With the win, FSC improved 4-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

After the Golden Eagles (5-6, 3-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first 15 minutes of the contest, Tuohy recorded back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 4-2 with 8:32 left in the first half. SJC-LI would quickly answer as senior defender Ally Johnston (Commack, N.Y.) scored just three minutes later to put St. Joe's ahead 5-2.

The Rams would close the half by outscoring the Golden Eagles 5-0 to take a two-goal lead into the halftime break. Sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored two goals only ten seconds apart before Tuohy set up junior attack Nicola Ingrassia (Deer Park, N.Y.) for a pair of scores with 1:26 remaining. Tuohy would register the final goal with only six seconds remaining in the half as FSC went ahead 7-5.

St. Joseph's-Long Island would score the first two goals of the second half to tie the game at 7-7. Farmingdale State was able to regain a two-goal lead as Tuohy set up both junior attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Ingrassia for goals to go up 9-7 with 12:03 left.

Only 2:07 later, a free-position goal by junior attack Nicole Stoppelli (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) allowed St. Joseph's-L.I. to close within one, 9-8.

Leading 10-9, Tuohy produced her fourth goal of the game off the feed from freshman midfielder Haley Perez (Smithtown, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale State a two-goal edge with 4:08 remaining. St. Joe's senior midfielder Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) would tally a free-position goal just 33 seconds later to again cut the deficit to just one, 11-10. The Golden Eagles would win the ensuing draw control and quickly fire a shot on net but a save by Rams senior goalkeeper Jessica Meyers (Smithtown, N.Y.) maintained FSC's one-goal lead with 2:08 on the clock. After Farmingdale State cleared the ball with 1:38 remaining, Gendels scored the final goal of the game with 57 seconds left as the Rams would hold on for the conference victory, 12-10.

Ingrassia finished with three goals and one assist for four points, while Gendels scored three times. Sophomore attack Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) registered two assists and a season-high 10 draw controls and Spina ended with a goal and an assist. 

Carroll (3g) and Stoppelli (1g, 2a) each tallied three points, while both Johnston and sophomore attack Lauryn Gregson (East Islip, N.Y.) scored twice for SJC-LI.
