Rams Earn Road Win at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team recorded their first win of the season on Tuesday night as they earned a 16-6 non-conference victory at Western Connecticut.

Leading 1-0 midway through the first half, FSC (1-5) used an unassisted goal from freshman attack Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 2-0. Junior midfielder Lauren Bradshaw (Bethel, Conn.) responded with a score for the Colonials (3-3) less than four minutes later to cut the deficit in half.

With 4:30 left to play in the first half and the Rams ahead 3-1, senior midfielder Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal for Farmingdale State. Only 53 seconds later, an unassisted score by junior attack Nicola Ingrassia (Deer Park, N.Y.) put FSC in front, 5-1. Tuohy and Bradshaw each added a goal late in the half as FSC took a 6-2 advantage into the break. The Rams won 8-of-9 draw controls and out shot Western Connecticut 16-11 in the first half.

Farmingdale State opened the second half with back-to-back free position goals from sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Tuohy followed with a score off the feed from Haley Perez (Smithtown, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 9-2 with 26:04 on the clock.

Leading 10-4 with 12:59 remaining, Gendels' third free position score of the game gave the Rams a seven-goal advantage. After FSC sophomore attack Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) netted a free position goal, a Bradshaw unassisted goal two minutes later for WCSU brought the lead to 12-5.

Over the final 8:41 of the contest, the Rams outscored the Colonials 4-1 en route to the 16-6 non-conference road victory.

Gendels scored four goals (all on free position attempts), while Tuohy had four points on three goals and one assist. Shelton scored three times and picked up a game-high 10 draw controls and Morra added two goals on three shots. Junior attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded a game-high three assists and in goal, senior Jessica Meyers (Smithtown, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in the win for FSC.

Bradshaw led Western Connecticut with four goals and four ground balls.

The Rams next will host Kean in a non-conference game on Saturday, March 31st at noon.
