Farmingdale, N.Y. - Oneonta had 10 different players score in today's 20-9 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Farmingdale State. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 3-0-1, while the Rams fell to 0-2.
After Oneonta jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the first 8:14 of the contest, FSC's first goal of the day came on an unassisted score from freshman attack Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.). The Red Dragons answered with three straight goals by Jamie Morris (West Nyack, N.Y.), Abby Zalucky (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 9-1 with 11:14 left to play in the first. The Rams were outscored 3-2 over the remainder of the half as they went into the break trailing, 12-3.
Farmingdale State opened the second half with back-to-back goals by senior midfielder Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 12-5. Over the next 10:26, the Red Dragons tallied four unanswered goals, including a pair from senior attack Taylor Casey (Garden City South, N.Y.), to take their largest lead of the game at 16-5. Farmingdale State and Oneonta each added four goals down the stretch as the Red Dragons earned the 20-9 non-conference victory.
Tuohy recorded a team-high four points on three goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) scored twice. Sophomore attack Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) picked up two ground balls and caused a game-high four turnovers in the loss.
For Oneonta, Casey scored a game-high four goals, while Morris notched a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Giddens finished the day with three goals, one assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Farmingdale State next will host non-conference opponent New Paltz on Tuesday, March 13th at 4:00 p.m.
