FSC Drops Season Opener Versus Scranton

Scranton - 17, Farmingdale State - 3


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team hosted non-conference opponent Scranton in their first game of the 2018 season and fell, 17-3.

The Royals (1-0) jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage only 7:01 into the game as junior midfielder Christine Olert (Katonah, N.J.) tallied a pair of goals. Rams (0-1) sophomore midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) would score an unassisted goal with 14:47 left in the first half to cut the FSC deficit to four. Scranton would respond by recording four unanswered goals to take a 9-1 lead into the break.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Royals junior attack Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored off the feed from Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y.) to open up a 10-1 advantage. Only 14 seconds later, another Scranton goal, this time from senior attack Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y.), allowed the Royals to take a 10-goal lead.

Trailing 16-1 with 13:05 remaining, Farmingdale State freshman attack Julia Tuohy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) registered an unassisted goal before Rams junior midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on a free position attempt to cut the deficit to 16-3.

Scranton freshman attack Mary Kate Horton (Glen Rock, N.J.) scored the game's final goal with 1:50 left as the Royals would go on to earn the non-conference victory, 17-3.

Gendels tallied two ground balls and two draw controls for the Rams, while freshman midfielder Haley Perez (Smithtown, N.Y.) picked up a game-high four ground balls in her collegiate debut.

Scranton was led by Gallo's five points on four goals and one assist, while freshman attack Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y.) each produced three goals and one assist in the win.

Farmingdale State next travels to Western Connecticut State for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:00 p.m.
