Farmingdale State - 16, Endicott College - 14
Ewing, N.J. - In the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship, Farmingdale State earned a 16-14 victory over Endicott College today at The College of New Jersey. Win the win, the Rams advance and will now play #1 TCNJ in the Second Round on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Leading 10-9 with 14:46 left to play, FSC (18-1) took a two-goal edge on a score by senior attack Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) off Nicola Ingrassia's (Deer Park, N.Y.) pass. Only 16 seconds later, a Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) goal increased the Rams advantage to three and FSC followed with back-to-back unassisted scores from senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) to go ahead, 14-9, with 10:53 remaining.
After Endicott (14-5) responded with two straight goals to cut the deficit to 14-11, senior attack Megan Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied goals to bring the Rams lead back to five with 4:04 on the clock.
Over the final 2:52, the Gulls scored the last three goals of the game as Farmingdale State recorded the 16-14 First Round victory.
Rosino had a game-high five points on two goals and three assists to go along with seven draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Sullivan scored three goals and added one assist. Gendels and freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) each scored three times for the Rams.
Endicott was led by senior midfielder Emily Whitney's (Rye, N.H.) five points on three goals and two assists.
FSC sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots, while sophomore Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) tallied 16 saves for the Gulls.
