Farmingdale State - 15, Western Connecticut - 14
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Leading 15-14 with 16 seconds on the clock, Farmingdale State senior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) caused a crucial turnover on the final play to secure the Rams' non-conference victory over Western Connecticut State this afternoon. The FSC women's lacrosse team improved to 4-0, while the Colonials dropped to an even 3-3 on the year.
After a free-position goal by Western Connecticut's Destinee Carey (New Milford, Conn.) cut the FSC lead to just two, 12-10, the Rams used back-to-back scores by freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) and Keller to take a 14-10 advantage with 7:27 remaining.
The Colonials would quickly counter just 1:14 later when freshman attack Brooke Baldelli (New Fairfield, Conn.) scored off the assist from Carey to cut the deficit to 14-11 with 5:41 remaining.
Western Connecticut would cut the Rams advantage to only one, 14-13, after a pair of draw control wins by freshman midfielder Geovanna Badaro (Fairfield, Conn.) led to two Colonials goals by Olivia Kosilla (Ellington, Conn.) and Carey with 3:43 left to play.
Farmingdale State senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control and scored the eventual game-winning goal with 1:39 left on the clock to bring the FSC lead back to two, 15-13.
Kosilla added the Colonials final score with 1:07 remaining on a man-up, free position shot, before Keller's caused turnover sealed the victory for the Rams.
Rosino notched a game-high nine draw controls to go along with four goals. For the game, FSC controlled the draw, 19-12.
Keller finished with four points on three goals and an assist, while Varone tallied four goals and four groundballs for Farmingdale State.
Western Connecticut was led by Carey who had eight goals, one assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
FSC will next host non-conference opponent Albright on Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m.
