New York, N.Y. – The Skyline Conference's eight women's lacrosse head coaches have voted on their 2016 edition of the all-conference team, and five student-athletes are among the major award recipients.
In the voting, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) and St. Joseph's-Long Island senior attack Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y.) share the Skyline's Offensive Player of the Year praise, while Mount Saint Mary senior defender Claire Duffy (Monroe, N.Y.) was selected as Defensive Player of the Year. Purchase sophomore attack Emma Porter (Homer, N.Y.) and Old Westbury freshman midfielder Natasha Treuman (Merrick, N.Y.) were selected as Rookies of the Year, while Porter's mentor, third-year bench boss Francesca Levine of Purchase, collected Coach-of-the-Year kudos from her peers.
The Rams had six All-Conference selections this season. Joining Rosino on the First Team were junior goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) and senior defender Judy Romero (Brentwood, N.Y.). Three players received Second Team distinction, including junior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) and senior defender Ali Pavese* (Kings Park, N.Y.).
Rosino, a team captain, amassed 72 points on 56 goals and 16 assists, with her 4.00 points per game average tied for the fifth-best mark in the Skyline. Included in her totals were four game-winning goals, which are tied for the top spot in the conference. Rosino finished the year ranked #5 All-Time at FSC for draw controls in a season (86), #6 All-Time for goals in a season and #9 all time for points in a season. She led the team in goals, points, draws, caused turnovers (30) and ground balls (33).
Spagnoletta appears on the All-Conference list for the third time in her career. She totaled a career-high 990 minutes this season, finishing with 440 saves. In the conference, she ranked 3rd for save percentage (.436), 4th for goals against average (11.26) and 6th for saves per game (8.47).
Romero receives her first All-Conference award this year, after posting career-highs in ground balls (27), draw controls (11) and caused turnovers (15) from her defensive position. Romero started 14-of-18 games for the Rams and also tied her career-high with two goals and one assist.
Keller finished third on the team in scoring with 28 goals and seven assists (35 points) and third on the team for draw controls with 21. This season, she finished with career-highs in five categories, goals, points, ground balls (18), draws and caused turnovers (10).
Sparrow started all of her 17 games played in her rookie season and scored 29 goals and four assists from her midfield position. She led the team with 33 ground balls and finished second on the team with 40 draw controls, to go along with her 19 caused turnovers (also 2nd most on team).
Pavese, a team captain, was one of five players who started all 18 games this season. Defensively, she totaled 20 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. She also grabbed five draw controls.
