St. Joe's Defeats FSC in Skyline Finals

#1 St. Joseph's-LI - 12, #2 Farmingdale State - 9


Patchogue, N.Y. - The second-seeded Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to #1 St. Joseph's-LI for the Skyline Conference Finals this afternoon and fell, 12-9. The Golden Eagles claimed the Skyline's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

Tied 3-3 with 6:12 remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State (8-10) used an unassisted goal from freshman midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) to take a one-score advantage.

With 5:10 left on the clock, the Golden Eagles (13-4) tied the game on a score by senior midfielder Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y.). Only nine seconds later, junior midfielder Tricia Barrett (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to put St. Joe's ahead by one, 5-4. The Golden Eagles followed with a free-position score by Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 6-4.

FSC junior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 6-5 after netting a goal at the 1:49 mark. Each team added a late first half score as the Rams went into halftime down one, 7-6.

St. Joe's opened up a four-goal lead after starting the second half with three unanswered scores over the first 9:46 of action. After Mia Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) answered with goals to pull the Rams within two, SJC tallied back-to-back scores to go ahead, 12-8. FSC added the final goal of the game but fell, 12-9.

Rosino finished with game-highs in goals (4) and draw controls (7), while Sanchez added two goals.

The Golden Eagles were led by Ferchland who scored four goals, while Barrett and Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y.) each tallied four points in the win.
