Rams Defeat Purchase; Advance to Skyline Finals

#2 Farmingdale State - 17, #3 Purchase - 8


Farmingdale, N.Y. -The second-seeded Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team earned a 17-8 victory over #3 Purchase in the Skyline Conference Semifinals this afternoon and clinched a berth into the Finals.

Trailing 4-3 with 11:09 remaining in the first half, FSC (8-9) senior midfielder Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) scored off the pass from Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) to tie the game. Only 1:40 later, a goal on a free-position attempt by junior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 5-4 lead.

After Ranaldo's third goal of the half put Farmingdale State ahead, 6-4, the Panthers (9-4) used a free-position score by Emma Porter (Homer, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 6-5 heading into the break.

The Rams opened the second half with four unanswered goals, including two from Keller to extend the advantage to 10-5 with 23:48 left on the clock. After a Purchase goal, FSC responded with four straight scores to go ahead by eight, 14-6.  Farmingdale State outscored the Panthers 3-2 over the final 7:08 en route to the 17-8 semifinal victory.

Keller tallied a game-high five goals, while Ranaldo added four goals and caused two turnovers. Junior midfielder Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded three goals, an assist and a game-high seven draw controls and junior attack Mia Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished with three goals and one assist. Sophomore attack Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched in with two goals, an assist and six draw controls.

Purchase was led by Porter who had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists.

The Rams next will travel to top-seeded St. Joseph's-LI on Saturday for the Skyline Conference Finals.
