Six Goal Second Half Propels Rams over Maritime

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 4-8, 3-0 in conference play with a 9-6 victory over Maritime College (3-5, 1-2) today. The Rams outscored the Privateers 6-2 in the second half en route to their third Skyline win.

Tied 2-2 midway through the first, junior attack Mia Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored off a dish from junior midfielder Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) to give the Rams a 3-2 edge with 11:27 on the clock. Maritime freshman midfielder Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y.) responded with two straight goals, giving the Privateers a 4-3 advantage at the break.

In the second, Deleva added her fourth goal of the day, unassisted, for a 5-3 Maritime lead. But at the 20-minute mark, Rosino connected on a free position shot to spark Farmingdale State's five consecutive goals over the next 14 minutes. Rosino scored three of those five goals, while sophomore attack Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each tallied one.

Maritime's Shannon Brady ended the Rams scoring streak with 4:39 left to play, before junior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) added the final goal for Farmingdale State, securing the 9-6 win.

Rosino tabbed four points on three goals and one assist to lead the Rams, along with a game-high five draw controls. Freshman midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) finished with a game-high three caused turnovers, one goal and one assist. Sanchez had a team-high four ground balls.

Farmingdale State will now face St. Joseph's-L.I. in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:00 p.m.
