Second Half Surge Leads Western Connecticut Past Rams

Danbury, Conn. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team led 5-3 at halftime but Western Connecticut used seven goals in the second half to earn the 10-5 non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Rams (1-2) only 1:23 into the game. Junior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) and senior defender Judy Romero (Brentwood, N.Y.) followed with back-to-back goals to put Farmingdale State ahead, 3-0, with 25:43 left in the first half.

After the Colonials (2-2) cut the deficit to 3-1, the Rams answered with a goal by Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) off the feed from Sparrow to regain a three score advantage.

With 35 seconds left in the first and FSC leading 4-3, Sparrow tallied her second goal off the game to give the Rams a 5-3 edge heading into halftime.

Western Connecticut outscored Farmingdale State 7-0 in the second half as junior midfielder Raquel Heitor (Danbury, Conn.) had three goals en route to the 10-5 victory.

Sanchez recorded a team-high four points on one goal and three assists, while Sparrow finished with two goals and one assist. Rosino picked up a game-high six ground balls to go along with one goal for FSC.

The Colonials were led by Heitor who scored three goals, including two on free-position attempts.

Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots, while junior Missy O'Donnell (Bridgeport, Conn.) had nine saves for Western Connecticut.

The Rams next return home for a non-conference matchup against Oneonta on Saturday, March 19th at noon.
