Farmingdale State - 14, Ramapo - 13

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State held a 14-13 lead with two seconds remaining and forced a high shot on Ramapo's potential game-tying free-position attempt to hold on for the one-goal victory. The FSC women's lacrosse team improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Roadrunners fell to 1-2.

Tied 7-7 early in the second half, junior midfielder Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to put the Rams ahead by one. Only 24 seconds later, Ramapo responded with a goal by sophomore midfielder Alyssa Tachon (Pequannock, N.J.) to even the game at 8-8.

With 21:43 remaining, Farmingdale State regained the lead on a Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) unassisted goal. The Rams followed with back-to-back goals from junior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 11-8 with 18:57 left to play.

After Tachon converted a free-position attempt for Ramapo, FSC used scores from Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) and Rosino to open up a 13-9 lead.

Trailing 14-10, the Roadrunners scored three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 14-13 with 13 seconds left on the clock. Ramapo won the final draw control but could not convert the game-tying free-position attempt as FSC held on for the 14-13 non-conference win.

Sanchez had a team-leading six points on two goals and four assists, while Rosino and Sparrow each tallied three goals and one assist. Senior defender Sara Rivadeneyra* (Ridge, N.Y.) caused a career-high five turnovers and picked up four ground balls in the victory.

Ramapo was led by Tachon and senior midfielder Lindsay Hughes (Milford, N.J.) who each scored six goals and had one assist.

The Rams next will travel to Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, March 15th for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
