Rams Fall in Season-Opener at Scranton

Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team traveled to non-conference opponent Scranton for their first game of the 2016 season and fell, 16-8.

Trailing 2-0 in the opening minutes, Farmingdale State (0-1) freshman attack Nicola Ingrassia (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored off Samantha Morra's (Levittown, N.Y.) pass to cut the deficit in half. The Royals (2-2) responded with five consecutive goals to take a 7-1 lead with 12:29 left to play in the first half.

After each team scored a goal, FSC freshman midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) scored on a free-position shot to pull the Rams within five, 8-3.

With 7:17 remaining in the first half, junior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored off the pass from Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) to cut the Scranton lead to 8-4. After Sparrow's second goal of the game cut the deficit to 8-5, the Royals closed the half with three straight scores to take an 11-5 advantage into the break.

Scranton scored three times over the first 3:41 of the second half to take a nine goal lead at 14-5.

Keller, Brittany Rosino* (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Sparrow each added second half goals for the Rams in the 16-8 loss.

Sparrow scored a game-high four goals and added two ground balls and two draw controls in her collegiate debut.

Junior midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y.) tallied a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists for Scranton.

Junior goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) had 14 saves for Farmingdale State, while junior Marne Rossetti (Wayne, N.J.) stopped 10 shots in the victory for the Royals.

FSC next will play host to Ramapo in a non-conference game on Thursday, March 10th at 3:30 p.m.
