Rams Close Regular Season with Senior Day Win over Purchase

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 16-3 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Senior's Emily Wolff (Middle Island, N.Y.), Nicole Marzocca* (North Babylon, N.Y.), Mary Armstrong (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.), Christy Thoden* (Bayport, N.Y.), Kelly Geheran (Sayville, N.Y.) and Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) were each honored before the game for senior day.

Leading 3-1 with 17:51 remaining in the first half, Handel increased the Farmingdale State (9-6, 6-1) advantage to 4-1 as she scored off the pass from Geheran. Only 46 seconds later, junior midfielder Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) tallied a score to put the Rams ahead by five. After a Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) free position goal, Handel responded with her third goal of the afternoon to give the Rams a 7-1 lead with 12:02 left in the half.

Farmingdale State scored four more times and took an 11-1 advantage into halftime.

The Rams led by as many as 15 late in the game en route to the 16-3 senior day victory.

10 different players recorded goals in the win led by Handel's five points on three goals and two assists. Marzocca tallied one goal, four assists, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Thoden scored once, had a game-high five assists, eight draw controls, four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Freshman midfielder Zoe Hines (Maplewood, N.J.) scored all three goals for Purchase (11-3, 4-3).

Farmingdale State earned the #2 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Playoffs. The Rams will play host to #3 Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m.
