Connecticut College Edges Rams in Double OT

New London, Conn. - With 1:38 remaining in double overtime, Connecticut College senior midfielder Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass) scored the game-winning goal to lead the Camels to a 15-14 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Thursday night.

Trailing 11-10 with 16:32 remaining, the Rams (7-5) tied the game with an unassisted score by senior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.). Only 2:41 later, Farmingdale State regained the lead on a Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) unassisted goal.

Thomas answered for Connecticut College (4-9) with back-to-back goals to put the Camels ahead 13-12 with 9:49 left on the clock. After an Mackenzie Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) score put Connecticut College in front by two, Farmingdale State's Kristen Ranaldo (Commack, N.Y.) netted the pass from Handel to cut the deficit to one, 14-13.

With only 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Keller scored the game-tying goal to force overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Taylor recorded the game-winner for Connecticut College with 1:38 left in double overtime.

Handel finished with a game-high six points on five goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Christy Thoden* (Bayport, N.Y.) scored four goals, had one assist and five draw controls. Senior midfielder Nicole Marzocca* (North Babylon, N.Y.) finished the game with two goals, two assists and three draw controls.

The Camels were led by Thomas and sophomore attack Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) who scored five and four goals, respectively.

The Rams next will host Mount Saint Mary in a conference game on Saturday, April 18th at 3:30 p.m.
